PM Carney Heads to India for Historic Talks, Rajinder Saini Joins Official Media Delegation

Prime Minister Mark Carney is departing for India this morning and Parvasi Media Group will be on board to report from Mumbai and New Delhi as Canada moves to deepen ties with one of its most important Indo-Pacific partners.
Mr. Rajinder Saini, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Parvasi Media Group, is part of the official media delegation accompanying the Prime Minister during the India leg of the Indo-Pacific visit. Saini will report directly from Mumbai and New Delhi as Carney meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talks focused on trade, energy, technology, artificial intelligence, talent mobility and defence cooperation.
The visit marks the first trip to India by a Canadian prime minister since 2018 and comes at a pivotal moment for bilateral ties. Relations had sharply deteriorated in 2023 following diplomatic tensions between Ottawa and New Delhi. Since taking office, Carney has moved to re-establish structured engagement with India, one of the world’s fastest growing major economies and Canada’s seventh largest trading partner.
Two way trade between the two countries reached 30.8 billion dollars in 2024. Both governments have signalled interest in advancing negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, with an ambitious target of expanding bilateral trade to 70 billion dollars by 2030.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu are also travelling with the Prime Minister. Their participation underscores the breadth of the agenda, which extends beyond trade into strategic cooperation, diaspora ties, investment flows and Indo-Pacific security.
For Canada’s large and influential South Asian community, the visit carries added weight. India remains a key economic and cultural partner, with deep family, business and educational connections linking both nations. Ottawa is seeking to diversify global trade partnerships while strengthening supply chains in energy, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing. Parvasi Media Group will provide continuous, real-time updates from the ground through Parvasi Radio, Parvasi Newspaper, Parvasi TV and digital platforms including www.canadianparvasi.com. Coverage will include leader-level meetings, business engagements, policy announcements and community reactions.
Parvasi Media Group is one of Canada’s oldest and most trusted South Asian media organizations, serving Punjabi, Hindi and multilingual audiences across the Greater Toronto Area and nationwide. Through radio, television, print and digital platforms, Parvasi delivers news, public affairs programming and community reporting that connects Canadians of South Asian origin with developments at home and abroad.
With direct access to the delegation, Parvasi aims to bring its audience clear, timely and credible coverage of a visit that could shape the next chapter of Canada-India relations.
